Q: What is Zoho Viewer?
A: Zoho Viewer lets you upload documents for viewing or sharing it online.
Q: What kind of files can I upload?
A: You can upload document files like doc, xls, ppt, pdf, txt, etc. Refer here for a full list.
Q: Do I need to have Microsoft Office installed?
A: No, you don't need to have any software installed on your machine. Just a web browser would do.
Q: What browsers are supported?
A: Internet Explorer 6+, Mozilla Firefox 1.5+, Opera 9+ and Safari 3+.
Q: What is the maximum size of the file that I can upload?
A: You can upload files of size upto 10 MB at a time. Check out our Bulk Upload tool too.
Q: For how long will the uploaded document be available?
A: The uploaded document will be permanently available on our servers unless it is deleted upon request. As soon as you upload your document, you will see a Delete link at the top. You can use it to delete your document. This Delete link will be available only for the first time you view it after uploading. If you want the document to be deleted at a later stage, you can send an email to support at zohoviewer dot com along with the URL of your document. In future we will add support to specify an expiry date for your documents, after which the document will be automatically deleted.
Q: Can I edit an uploaded document?
A:
Once uploaded, you cannot edit the document and put it in the same URL.
But you can edit and save it to your Zoho Account using the Edit link
at the top.
Q: Are my files listed somewhere on your website for the whole world to see?
A: No. Your document is available on a random URL and only if the URL is known, the document can be accessed. We don't list any of user's documents on our website. We also have a robots.txt configured so that search engines won't crawl / index user's uploaded documents on our site. However, an user can post the URL of his document, whereever he wants.
If you are using a shared computer, please note that the URL of your document will be available in your browser history and anyone with access to the system can possibly view the document, if the browser history is not cleared. The URL might also be available in referrer logs of sites you visit immediately after visiting your Zoho Viewer document.
Q. Do you have any API for Zoho Viewer?
A: Yes, we do have an API to view documents online. Refer our API section to get started on it.
For further queries, you can send an email to support at zohoviewer dot com.
if you never view the page online you never get the URL. Why don't I at least get an email telling me the addies of the files I uploaded if you don't want to go through any listing procedures for privacy purposes?
I'm so enthusiastic about your Zoho.com sevices, I've told all my friends, my writer's group, and my family about it. This is a great service!
An api for Viewer would be great. I would like to build a system that uses an api for Viewer so that the links to the document can be saved within my system. This would allow a group of users to collectively create and share documents.
My system would organize the links and your system would save the docs and provide viewing tools.
I can't wait until you release an api.
The Viewer is great and simple to use...I would really like to see it go one step further and have an active cursor be available. This would turn the Viewer into a really simple "Mini" online presentation or instruction viewer. Does not need to have audio or try to compete with ZOHO "Show" etc....
I'd love to see the Viewer open sourced.
It's a great service for John Q. Public but for project management systems (or PM consultants as myself) that want to have file repositories for private purposes that idea of posting a confidential document on a third party server is unacceptable.
The OSS would make you guys heros.
When will MS Office OOXML (*.docx, etc) be supported?
The service is great but i would like to use it in a more private fashion so only the users i grant can view the documents i haave shared, this would be possible soon?
agreed
they should tie in zoho accounts so you could manage the files and set viewers
or tie in a password so that only the people who know the password can view it
Keep your feedback coming. We are listening.
For this to really be useful in my office, we would need to be able to access a list of our uploaded documents. Keeping track of the urls for every individual document only creates more work for us.
FANTASTIC SERVICE!! I LOVE ZOHO, BUT PLEASE TRY TO SET UP A LIST OF FILES AN USER UPLOADS FOR FUTURE REFERENCE, INSTEAD OF RANDOMIZING THINGS.
THANK YOU!!!
great features
my students no longer have to download documents (pdf, doc, etc) thereby no longer cluttering their HD.
i link to the zoho document from within Blackboard; no one outside can see the URL.
I tried to upload a buncha PDFs in a batch upload. They didn't work, except for 2. What's the deal with that?
There is no obvious trace of GNU GPL'ed software usage statement. ZOHO uses OpenOffice.org internally. OpenOffice.org is GNU GPL'ed software. ZOHO violates GNU GPL. Maybe, ZOHO's OpenOffice.org is changed to fit in the whole system. GNU GPL violation again as long as ZOHO is not a personal project. Beware!
@daec: Thanks for bringing this to our notice. Our legal department will take necessary steps.
My company is looking for a way to upload multiple documents and recieve one URL if possible to view all these document. . Is there a way to do that? I was hoping 'Bulk Upload' would but them all as one but it just uploaded multiple to their own URL. Thanks!
@Guest: This is not currently possible. But you can probably set up a wiki page in Zoho Wiki and paste the URLs of these documents (or) embed all these documents as an iframe in the Wiki page. You can find an Embed link on top of all viewer documents.
Thank you Zoho for this Viewer service and ALL of your web-based application services—they're really good.
You've come a long ways in improving your services since you started—keep up the good work!

there really should be a way to delete an accidently uploaded document AFTER the first view. maybe this could be achieved by a "owner login" while viewing.
Wat about documents protected by a password? I'm having trouble with my password protected odt files
I uploaded a pdf file but when I view it the font is all mixed up - with characters in the place of words - why did that happen? It's not a protected pdf file.
Recently I found I could not upload PDF (but I successed in upload a PPT)
Why?
@poke612: Can you check whether the PDFs are password secured or if content extraction is disallowed?
I know what is the problem
I convent those PDF files in version 1.6 (Acrobat version)
But if I use PDFcreator / downgrade the acrobat PDF version
Then the upload would be successful.
hope this information would benefit the team
correct something,
I testes it.
Not 1.6 but 1.4 in PDF Version
If you tied this to your doc application, I'd use it. As it stands now, there's no way to organize docs and once you upload it here it's gone... no access to it!
There's some problem for me to embed the code using thickbox to view the document recently ...
it shows "Request Entity Too Large" error when viewing the documents using thickbox via AJAX i think, however the document can be accessed if you just type the url in the browsers..
so... is there anything i can do to make it viewable again?
thx...
I would like to use this viewer to allow approximately 4000 different people to view it almost simultaneously. The document is over 50 pages with some graphics. Is this possible or will it bring your system to its knees?
@Guest, what type of file is it? Is it doc or pdf? Do you have the link to the page? Can you send it to support@zohoviewer.com?
i uploaded 2 files here to view in my mobile, and i set them don't expire. but i had to format the pc. now i don't have those documents, but i need them badly. i have lost the url. is there any way i can find those documents?
@keu_ek_jon@yahoo.com,
Can you send the date & time of upload and the document names to support@zohoviewer.com?
